GEORGE
CLASON: THE CAPTAIN WHO LIVES FOREVER 3
Today, we travel to The United States of America to visit
a superhero that teaches us financial freedom based on principles from ancient Babylon.
Let me introduce you to George Clason.
George Samuel Clason (November 7, 1874 – April 7, 1957)
was an American author. He is most associated with his book The Richest Man in
Babylon which was first published in 1926.
George S. Clason was born in Louisiana, Missouri.
He attended the University of Nebraska. He served in the
United States Army during the Spanish–American War.
Clason started two companies, the Clason Map Company of
Denver Colorado and the Clason Publishing Company. The Clason Map Company was
the first to publish a road atlas of the United States and Canada, and did not survive
the Great Depression.
George Clason is best known for writing a series of
informational pamphlets about being thrifty and how to achieve financial
success.
He started writing the pamphlets in 1926, using parables
that were set in ancient Babylon.
Banks and insurance companies began to distribute the
parables, and the most famous ones were compiled into the book The Richest Man
in Babylon - The Success Secrets of the Ancients.
He is credited with coining the phrase, "Pay
yourself first"
One of the key phrases stated in the book is: Our prosperity as a nation depends upon the
personal financial prosperity of each of us as individuals.
Adam Smith also buttresses the point above when he
defined Economics as the study of the
wealth of Nations.
For example, there are only 1,826 billionaires in the
world.
However, the USA has 536 billionaires, China 251, United
Kingdom and Germany 120, India 84, Russia 77, Hong Kong 55, France 47, Canada
and Italy 39, Taiwan 33, Turkey 32 and Brazil 31.
Let’s
compare this statistics with the billionaires in Africa.
The numbers include: Egypt 8 billionaires, South Africa 7, Nigeria 5, Morocco
3, Tanzania 2, Algeria, Angola, Swaziland and Uganda all have 1 billionaire
each.
My summation is that a country is as wealthy as the rich
and educated people contributing gainfully to the economy.
Back to the Richest Man in Babylon, Money is plentiful
for those who understand the simple rules of its acquisition.
The rule of being wealthy includes:
1. Start
thy purse to fattening (Save 10% of what you earn – Pay yourself first)
2. Control
your expenditure
3. Make
your money (gold) multiply
4. Guard
your treasures from loss
5. Make
of thy dwelling a profitable investment
6. Insure
a future income and
7. Increase
thy ability to earn
My
Conclusion: George
has left us with a gift of financial prosperity. All we can do to become the
richest in our own stead is to read this book.
A
must read for everyone who wants to be financially free.
